Good Questions

Why lamb lung?

Lamb lung is simply the perfect single-ingredient treat. It gets your dog's attention without making them gain weight. As a bonus, our lamb lung is dry and low in odor, so you can carry it around in your pocket. When we first got Juniper, she was totally uninterested in "regular" treats, so we alternated between boiled chicken that would go bad and stinky organ meats that translated into dog farts that could peel paint off the walls.

What makes Beeb’s different from other lamb lung treats?

Our lamb lung is grass-fed and sourced from New Zealand, which produces the highest quality in the world. It doesn't smell like lamb organ meats sourced elsewhere. It's also dry and thin enough to break into smaller pieces. Once we discovered lamb lung, we tried sourcing it from various places in the U.S., but more than once had to put the bag outside of the house because it smelled so bad. We wanted better for ourselves and for you.

How is it made? Is it freeze-dried?

No. Beeb’s lamb lung is sliced, gently baked, and then broken up into pieces. We bake it because baking kills off pathogens and makes it easier on dogs' digestive systems. Freeze-dried and raw treats are great, but they carry more risk for older dogs and small puppies. As a bonus, baking also reduces the odor, so your hands don't smell after you give your dog a snack.

Is it safe for puppies?

Yes! Because our treats are gently baked (not raw or freeze-dried), they're easier on developing digestive systems. The texture also makes them easy to break into tiny pieces for small mouths and growing appetites.

How many treats are in each package?

It varies since they're natural and hand-broken, but here are rough estimates.

  • Pocket Tube (0.5 oz) -- about 40 to 60 pieces
  • Home Tube (4.5 oz) -- about 350 to 450 pieces
  • 2 oz Refill Bag -- about 150 to 200 pieces
  • 4 oz Refill Bag -- about 300 to 400 pieces
  • 12 oz XL Refill -- about 900 to 1,200 pieces

How long do they last once opened?

Stored in a cool, dry place, they'll stay fresh for several months. Our tubes reseal with a satisfying pop to keep them protected.

How does Beeb’s compare to other treats?

Beeb’s is a premium single-ingredient treat. A little goes a long way, so you won't need as much. There are no cheap fillers to bring the cost down. We've spent our time sourcing the highest quality meat, not the cheapest. We're also a small family business at a scale where we can treat all of our suppliers and employees with respect. That matters to us.

About Our Packaging

Why plastic-free packaging?

We're plastic-free for your dog's health, your health, and our health. When we started our research for Beeb’s, we found out that almost all the treats we had been giving our small pup were sitting in hot warehouses for months in those plastic zip-top packages. And while one plastic-free package won't save the world, it means one less plastic bag in your house, one less in the landfill, and one less made to replace it.

But I recycle my plastic.

Here's the hard truth. Plastic recycling is largely a myth. About 48 million tons of plastic waste is generated in the U.S. each year, and only 5 to 6 percent is actually recycled. Most of what you put in the recycling bin goes to a landfill. Petrochemical and plastics companies started a campaign decades ago to convince the public that plastics were recyclable, and have continued to publish "targets" to perpetuate that myth. For the small percentage that does get recycled, it's often shipped overseas and processed under the worst conditions for human health.

What about compostable plastic?

More bad news. "Compostable" plastic can only be processed at specialized commercial facilities, and right now those only exist in Seattle and San Francisco. Everywhere else, it ends up in the landfill (where it won't decompose), contaminates recycling streams, or sits in backyard compost bins forever. We wanted truly plastic-free packaging, not greenwashing.

What can I actually do?

You can't control what you can't control. But you can control what you bring into your home and what you feed your pet. In our research, we've found that the less plastic dogs ingest, the better. Everything that's bad about microplastics for humans is also bad for our pets. We're just getting started, but everything Beeb’s makes will be plastic-free, for your dog's health and yours.
